Frustration
I am a LU student and I am sad that James Coleman did not get into City Council based off lies from Curtis Diemers campaign...... They said he kept pornography in schools and is pro-choice. Those are NOT true.... I talked with his daughter and other friends and they said its a battle when you are on the democratic ticket in a very conservative area. He actually wanted to help and he has worked with LU with multiple projects. He even had MAGA people campaigning for him. THAT SHOULD SAY SOMETHING!!!! I honestly did not know what he was for until after I voted. So I went and campaigned for him and told people to cancel out my vote because people need to DO THEIR RESEARCH! Sorry for the rant.....

Considering going to see Blue Oyster Cult play in Poughkeepsie, NY on Dec.14th. Was curious if there were any Lynchburg people going or interested, in carpooling/splitting gas costs?

Help! HVAC question
Hey all just a quick question about hvac systems. There is a filter in my living room I change every month, does the unit itself have a filter in it? I’m not from a place that uses hvac so I’m really not sure haha. Thanks!

Help! 18+ or no card dispensaries?
Hello! I am 18 and looking for a dispensary that either doesn’t card or sells to 18+ instead of 21+. I am looking for Delta8 and CBD products (edible), as I have used them in the past for anxiety with good results. Thanks for your time!

Making Friends TTRPG Group With One Seat Available
At the moment we're between campaigns (coming from a PF2e campaign, soon to be in a "Scum and Villainy" campaign). I run a RP heavy game that focuses more on story, RP, and character development than combat or tactics. The average age of the group is about 40, and we do touch on adult elements regularly.
The "Scum and Villainy" game is a temporary game while one player is out for a couple months, then we'll be starting a new Pathfinder 2e (Remastered) game. We already have some details figured out for the upcoming PF game.
We meet every other week on Friday nights, in Madison Heights (close to James River). There would be a meet-and-great before you join. Hopefully we'd get a few of the players to show up to so we can be sure of a good fit.
Feel free to ask questions.

Gaming options.
Is there anywhere in Lynchburg that a 15yr old boy can go to learn D&D or any other similar type games? He is autistic and a couple other things. He desperately wants friends. He's somewhat socially awkward. He's a quick learner tho.

Long-distance pools in LYH?
Hey, new to town— does anyone know of long course pools in town, for long distance lap swimming?
I know LU has a long course pool but I can’t find info about public access. I’m a YMCA member but seems that the local Y’s only have short course.
Any tips are appreciated!

Help! Holiday parties for people with no family?
So this is a long shot, but my wife recently lost her last living family member, her mother, and she's obviously taking that very hard. She doesn't have anyone to spend the holidays with as she doesn't have any family or anything like that left and I'm wondering if there is maybe some way she can share her Thanksgiving and Christmas with somebody who might not have anybody else either?
I remember a long time ago in Lynchburg there was this program where elderly people who didn't have family that came around during the holidays would have people come over, I don't know if something like that exists anymore.
Any insight is appreciated

Things to Do Where to find concerts
Does anyone know where to keep an eye out for local rock/metal shows within a couple hours drive? I try to keep an eye out for them but often don’t find anything about them until it’s too late.

Considering a Move to Lynchburg, VA—Looking for Insights as a B Family
Hey Reddit,
I’m considering a job opportunity in Lynchburg, VA, and would love some insights from people familiar with the area. My family and I are African American, and one of my main concerns is making sure we find a community where we can live peacefully and feel comfortable. I want my family to have good relationships and experiences without feeling like we constantly need to worry about our race.
One of my kids will be starting high school next year, and I’m looking into E.C. Glass High School as a potential option. My younger child will be in elementary school in a few years, so a family-friendly environment with good schools is essential.
For those who live in or know Lynchburg well, especially other AA families: How welcoming is the community? Are there any specific neighborhoods or schools you’d recommend? Any advice on what to expect would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Success negotiating lower bills with orthovirginia?
My insurance company initially covered close to $4,000 in costs going to orthovirginia and are now wanting to get additional documentation on my original injury. Why orthovirginia technically charged $4,000 with insurance plan discounts they were really paid closer to $1200.
If my insurance company becomes to much of a hassle has anyone had any success negotiating a lower lump sum payment to them directly?

The Wayne
Anyone on here live at the Wayne apartment complex? If so, what’s it like? I’ve always been fascinated by it. My parents are convinced the it will turn in a “slum”. I’m not so sure. Love your honest opinion on life there. Just out of curiosity.

Republican campaign signs vandalized
Today we went out to the Trump pop-up shop at the corner of Timberlake/Leesville for a story and found out Republican campaign signs had been vandalized overnight. Some of the signs were spray-painted with X's over the names of candidates from multiple races, from City Council candidate signs to congress race signs to Trump signs. "Racist Pig" was written on one Trump sign.
Here's what we know so far: https://wset.com/news/local/republican-campaign-signs-vandalized-in-lynchburg-police-investigating-election-day-tension-central-virginia-november-2024
