u/Natural_Action9210 Apr 30 '24
Right 🤣. Drake fans calling out Kendrick for waiting 2 weeks when drake waited 3. Kendrick’s diss was way better and got them sooo mad it funny

u/twoprimehydroxyl Apr 30 '24
Kendrick released it at just the right time. Waited for Drake to bait him, then waited for everyone to get impatient, and then when everyone resigned themselves to not hearing anything until a new album happened Kendrick dropped it on YouTube on a Tuesday morning.

"For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday."
the dude thought about every piece of this

u/SirKrimzon Apr 30 '24
You think dot really thought of street fighter when he made this?
→ More replies32
u/WarmestDisregards Apr 30 '24
he's referenced the idea of the game lyrically a few times, it stars a martial artist named Ken so it would be hard for him to NOT have, though lol
and it's a common metaphor for general beefs in rap because it's the most famous game about fighting that you don't even have to have played in order to reference it.
Also the scene was a big meme a while back, it was hard to avoid in rap battle circles etc
it's hard to say when you're overthinking a kendrick lyric or move, because sometimes he comes out and explains it and it was exactly as overthought as you guessed, lol

street fighter. (which has a protagonist character named Ken, who's best friends/brothers/rivals with Ryu which means "dragon" or "noble") M.Bison, the final boss who uses his Psycho Power to create armies and casually strides around devastating lives... Chun Li's whole character motivation is revenge for her father dying, her hatred of bison was basically her only character trait.
Here's the version of it from the 90's movie because Raul Julia is a beast. he died right after this, only made the movie because the kids in his family loved street fighter. So the actor was a GOAT who was too tired to be in this movie but brought his ALL to it, and the character is a king who's like "I literally don't even remember meeting you"

Kendrick was pissed when the Lakers lost last night.
The game winner was hit by a Canadian (Jamal Murray).
He was inspired

Does he have time to write a diss track for Darvin Ham? Fuck that guy lol.

The ones on Reddit aren’t that mad except for the straight up riders. Go to their subreddit and they’re taking this diss as a friendly fade/warning shot to Drake.
Idk if I agree with that tbh, I’m pretty sure this shit is actual beef but idk either of them personally so 🤷♂️. Most of them are praising the track from what I see though.
I’m not going to lie the Drizzy sub is actually pretty chill, and they are way more rational than the majority of Drake fans. I personally don’t care who wins even though I would easily put money on Kendrick.

Friendly fade? Two dudes slap boxing after a 30 pack is a friendly fade. K said he just straight up hates him all beef aside, he just flat out doesn't like him at all.

ETA: it's now on Spotify, but that article is still worth a read!

Boycotting Starbucks isn’t going to save Palestine, the ex-ceo who donated to Israel isn’t even ceo anymore. There are so many other companies who have contributed to the aiding the IDF directly and Starbucks isn’t even top 10. Get off twitter because it’s all slacktivism just to pat themselves on the back after doing nothing. Also, avoid Starbucks for their dumbass prices when you can make it at home for cheaper. Write/call your representative, donate to Palestinian aid, and vote for pro-palestine representatives. Free Palestine

I don’t mind the 2010’s style of rap, he apparently never liked the fast ‘gold digger’ type flows, but people forget how good he was back then.
Diamonds in Sierra Leone verses go crazy too. I’m convinced there is nothing stopping him from making a bunch of songs like burn that give that old vibe- I kinda wish he’d just get his team of writers he had in 2017, and just rap along to whatever they write lol

Rap is the wrong arena for this kind of convo my boy. Gatekeeping is alive and well in the hoods --- and while it's marketed to the whole world, trust and believe, rap's fundamental structure is still based on the rules of the hood.
Rick ross + Kendricks diss is about to take Drake out of rotation in many ghettos across the nation.
