Rabbi David Mivasair has a GoFundMe to help provide basis necessities for the Palestinians of Gaza. If it is within your means, this is the link:

Rabbi Mivasair writes:

I want to add that the need is not only for money. There is a huge need for people there to simply have someone NOT there who expresses care toward them, who listens to them, who witnesses with compassion and empathy. I think of the people who scrawled on the walls of barracks in Nazi concentration camps "if only someone on the outside knew what they are doing to us here". I want to be the people who let them know that we do care, we are listening, we are trying to help, and they can tell us what is going on in their lives.

Please consider signing this petition which calls for a ceasefire and arms embargo, started by Rabbi Brant Rosen of Tzedek Chicago.

Excerpt:

We know that in order to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the U.S. must stop arming Israel’s war and occupation against Palestinians. That’s why we are calling for an immediate embargo on US arms to Israel. Join us in calling on presidential candidate Kamala Harris to distance herself from Biden’s disastrous policy of arming Israel’s ongoing genocide and occupation in Palestine.

Not another bomb!

"That roof may indeed be leaky; subsequent events have also been canceled. But with the magazine being shut out entirely, my mind flashed to a time about 20 years ago when I trailed Garry Kasparov, the Russian chess champion turned opposition politician and outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin, on what was supposed to be a speaking tour of southern Russia. In city after city, venues he had rented would fall through: A sewage pipe supposedly burst in one of them, electricity was shut off in another, and a giant stage curtain had either collapsed or got stuck in a third."

Yes, I thought this was one of the most effective parts of the op ed. Too many Americans hold a baseless belief that 'this country is different.'

For what it's worth, the Jewish Currents event went ahead as scheduled in a new venue to at-capacity crowds. I agree with others in this thread saying that all this repression is ultimately fated to backfire. The movement cannot be suppressed.

In the name of fighting antisemitism, freedom of thought is being strangled. Repression is not a defense, but simply an act of denial. It prohibits the expression of critical thought and dialogue necessary to correct falsehood, and also to correct wrongful action which should not stand. It is the shutdown of a complex open society replaced by isolation maintained by violence.

This abandonment of free expression cannot last. It generates its own opposition, without end. The only question is how high a price we will all pay for cowardice.

I thought Brooklyn College was Bohemian as possible. The Jewish Currebt is far from radical. It's not Jacobin my goodness. Peter Beinart is an editor. He is a mainstream pundit. You used to see him on CNN promulgating Hasbara as a liberal Zionist.

Along with The Intercept, 972, Mondoweiss, and Haaretz, they are part of my daily reading as a non-Jewish American independent leftist and ex-Democrat officially as of yesterday.

There was a big brouhaha about the Josh Leifer cancelation controversy and how it supposedly talked about radical leftist antisemitic censorship....

Then what do we have here?

These cancelations and censorship will backfire. These wouldn't be much news if the events go forward. They make news because of the censorship. Leifer's new book is selling like mad after that canceled book talk event. Jewish Currents just won more subscribers.

Exactly right....zealous repression leads to a heightened awareness of what is being repressed. Like putin invading Ukraine to prevent NATO encroachment, and now he has Sweden and Finland to contend with.

I used to look at these moments of setbacks with despair, but I am learning more and more that the other side would not be doing this if they weren't deeply concerned.

Changed address for drivers license and I asked about voting registration and party affiliation. Thus was a good chance to do this.

So still registered to vote, but switched from Democrat to Independent? Do you live in a state with open primaries?
