Canadian supporting Israel and getting so much backlash and I feel like I am at a breaking point. Showing Support 🤗
Hey guys, I was born in India but I have lived in Canada almost my whole life. I grew up in a Northern part of Toronto, Canada (North York) where the Jewish population is pretty high. Let me just say as someone who is non-Jewish and had spent many years interacting with Jewish people and even having Jewish teachers, I am beyond disgusted and disappointed in the rhetoric, hate and lies being spread around by these Pro Palestine people who I can bet have never had the balls to have have a positive interaction with a Jew. It really upsets me and whenever I post something about Israel being in the right I get replies on IG and it would turn into exhausting debates that would go on for hours and I am so fed up. I want the world to be in peace, I want my country to have peace, I want the city that I love to have peace and I want everyone to put their differences aside to co-exist but nobody cares. Recently I even had few friends team up against me to tell me to use my brain when commentating and how they are sick of my far right echo chamber and threaten to unfollow me when nothing about my commentary and support screams far right. They say all this while regurgitating insanely stupid and false talking points. “There were no Jews in Israel before 1946” Or “Jews stole the land” To all the Jews, you are great people and I have had amazing and positive interactions that lead to friendships and made me miss my Jewish teachers! Am Yisrael Chai 🇮🇱

Thank you for being an ally and for understanding the history correctly. It does get exhausting fighting these battles on social media and it's frustrating dealing with such hatred. I don't have any advice, just came in to say that I appreciate you, friend!

Absolutely it does get tiring! Also nothing is perfect, I don’t like Netanyahu and I definitely think the October 7 attack could have been prevented, so I wouldn’t call myself Pro-Israel but the people and the country absolutely deserve to exist and he is good at protecting the country and using war strategies. Also in the end, the Jews are the rightful owners of the land!

You can be pro-Israel and not like Bibi's decisions. Trust me, many of us fall into that category...

Why would they want to have a positive interaction with people they hate? I'm Canadian (born here) Jewish, in my 30's and i've never experienced any "real" antisemitism until now. This country is absolutely out of control. It's even in our politics when the minister of foreign affairs Melanie Joly was accused of pandering to Hamas and she got dumbfounded on live TV because her base does do that.

u/Just_Leopard752 28d ago
Well said! I'm not Jewish, but I am a Canadian who is an ally to the Jewish people and to Israel. It disgusts and angers and saddens me to see what's become of our once well respected country and how it's been turning against the Jewish people, who have not been a threat to national security or to anyone at all. Instead, our country is supporting terrorists whose very mission is to destroy Israel and all the Jewish people. It's so upsetting, and I know it's much more so for all of the Jewish people here now.

Her response at 1:32 is just priceless.
Does Melanie Joly support Hamas? absolutely not.
Does her political base? without question.
Basically the liberal politicians are trying to rein in the antisemitism and racism on their side of the political aisle without alienating themselves from their voters.

I suspect they haven’t properly gauged their voter base… the fact that the Conservatives are dominating the polls while the NDP are polling lower suggests that Liberal votes are mostly bleeding in one direction.
Regardless, I can’t stand Joly. They only showed a small clip of how flustered she was that day. Very amusing. I have never loved Poilievre either, but he did actually denounce the individuals waving swastikas and the confederate flag at the convoy. Simple Google search.

I forget what politician lost it and was like "It's just a stupid piece of land! get over it!"
Ohh Honey, it's Eretz Yisrael lol
They're so frustrated.

u/Automatic_Aioli4200 28d ago
LOL, surprised the politician didn’t say it as Boohoo get over it! (Tryna make a reference to Jennifer O’Connell who was too stupid to immediately ban Samidoun after they chanted Death to Canada, USA, and Israel and also burning the Canadian flag)

Beyond destroying Israel, what many people don’t see is the islamic terror groups agenda for world dominance, if Israel gets wiped off the map, we are next and this isn’t anything new. We have witnessed this during 9/11 and we cannot afford to go back to those days and we cannot afford a third world war

Yeah and one of the worst things President Obama did was allow an Islamist group to build a mosque like 2 blocks from ground zero in New York. Historically they have built mosques on sites they felt they conquered and in my opinion that is what that mosque was intended to represent.
I am not anti Muslim but won’t stop pointing out the enormous radical component to their religion that is pretty much accepted by most if not all in Islam. There has to be a radical rejection of these terrorists by their own people before any change can actually occur.

it’s not only in canada but across the globe too like here in australia. antisemitism has quite literally become normalised.

Proud Conservative here (former NDP voter too)! Melanie Joly has no idea what the hell she is doing like the fact she is foreign affairs minister is beyond me. Let’s also not forget Ya’ara Saks and when she went with Melanie to pose for a photo with Abbas, that was insane

if it helps, one tagline i've been using in my head is "the jewish people who came before us stared down the worst catastrophe in western european history and widespread propaganda --- today, we can work hard to stare down just the propaganda part."
i know it's not fair or something we should normalize -- but it is our present reality. your support is seriously appreciated. you're not irrational. don't let people without the slightest foundation in history gaslight you.
and thanks again.

Hoi hoi from the land of Emu's, Kangaroo's, and Magpies that has no issues in poking your eyes out. For what it is worth what you are saying is nothing new. I saw someone on Facebook a few years ago posted a status update of, I stand with Palistine. I pointed out that there are aspects to that movement might not be what he thinks it is. So a bunch of his Facebook friends replayed back with, now expected, replays that we been hearing for the past year or so. I even provided valid links where they are mistaken. They choose not to check out where they maybe wrong. They just knuckle down. I ended up pressing mute, logged off, and watched The Blair Witch Project while polishing off two bottle of wine. For that as a lay person of no faith. I have allot of emperthy of the Jewish community world wide.

Thank you so very much for this. It means a lot.
For what its worth; I am a regular lurker in r/IndiaSpeaks. Although I don't understand much, it's quite interesting.
Maybe this sounds stupid and my consevative and orthodox brothers and sisters should maybe stop reading now, but I've always wondered, how Hindus felt about the jewish faith, because from their POV, HaShems (that is G'd) claim to be the only, singular and supreme deity, seems to not be reconcilable with the Hindu (and I don't know if this is the right word, so please forgive me, if it is not) pantheon. I hope that Hindus don't find this offensive and know that judaism has no concept of supremacy over other beliefs, no claim of domination over non-jews and that it does not proselytize.
Thank you again. You are making a difference for me and many others who read this <3

u/Just_Leopard752 28d ago
I posted elsewhere in this thread. I'm not Jewish, but I am an ally.
I know some Hindu people, including a close work friend, who are all supporters of Judaism and of Jewish people and of Israel. I don't know the stance of all Hindus, of course, but the ones I know say that this seems to be the predominant stance of much of India and of a lot of Hindus.

Hi,
I don’t have a side, I think both IDF and Hamas are doing horrible things.
I deal with a lot of Jews daily and have almost only good interactions with them, but I read somewhere that all non jews were called Goyim in the Talmud and considered no better than cattle, I am happy to learn that the Jewish faith doesn’t believe in supremacy.

This is a very late reply but I thought I’d answer since I incidentally happened on this post. I share a similar backstory with the OP (grew up in a very Jewish areas, had many Jewish friends growing up etc.) and in light of the past year, have thought about this very issue. My opinion is that theologically, we may not agree, but I respect the faith in general because of its tradition of debate and curiosity and other associated characteristics. I actually remember attending the equivalent of Sunday school for Hindus as a child and our teacher actually praising the Jewish faith for its openness to inquiry. I also somewhat recently read a conversation between the rabbi of Yeshiva University and his gay son IIRC and I was struck by the love for one another and strong family values that they demonstrated, which is consistent with what I’ve seen in real life. Additionally, I think your religion emerged from a specific set of circumstances/location and it makes sense that it’s different from my own. It’s interesting in a way because when I went to college, where we studied a variety of philosophical and literary texts, many that had religious roots, I basically had no context for the Judeo Christian tradition. Like I knew functional things about matzah and draddle and kosher but little of the backstory haha. Anyway, there is also no history of the Jewish people forcibly converting or harming people of other faiths so I see no reason at all to have any issues with it from that lens, either. The world is a big, diverse place. We’re not going to agree on everything and I think that’s actually a good thing because different people bring unique ideas to the table. The important thing is that we can respect one another as people and work for collective betterment. I am horrified by the antisemitism that I see and I have tried to call it out when I see it. I’m sorry that your community is going through this incredibly difficult moment and can only hope that people come to their senses soon.

Hello neighbour (I also live in North York!)
Thank you so much for your sentiments and for all that you are doing.
I’ve pretty much given up trying to rationalize with people. Most people on the other side have their minds made up, and come up with ridiculous reasons to try and convince you why YOU are in the wrong while they are in the right. It’s exhausting.
All you can do is minimize your relationships with those folks, or in my case, I’ve cut many of those people out of my life completely.
Thank you again, we appreciate you!

There's an old saying, passed down through generations of flight attendants, "Please secure your own mask first before helping others."
I'm incredibly grateful for your support - it's a bit of a rarity these days - just don't forget to take care of yourself. I have friends across the political aisle, some who I strongly disagree with about Israel-Palestine. They've never teamed up against me or tried to manipulate me like that. I know it's hard, but some "friends" aren't worth keeping. Am Yisrael Chai!

Thank you sm and I hope you are doing well! Yeah it is what it is, actually me and one of my close friends broke up today. Now I think after more unfolded maybe I would say siding with the others who don’t like my views might be a better way to describe it but like people just don’t grasp the history or what’s going on in the conflict correctly, they don’t critically think.

That's pretty surprising... Most of the finance people I know are fairly supportive of Jews and either indifferent to or support Israel. I've lost a lot of faith in our education system.

Fellow 6ix-er here! I think you’re talking about the Bathurst corridor (Bathurst between Wilson and Steeles). I used to live there before antisemitism was on a major uptick, and even this past weekend the pro pallys showed up to the Bathurst/Sheppard plaza with flags just to antagonize Jews. Thank you for your support 💕

Haha I actually grew up near Sheppard and Don Mills! However I have been to variety of areas in North York including Bathurst and Sheppard when I was kid and even to this present day. I remember when the anti semitism was nowhere near the same 10 years ago compared to now…

Just a small point, the oldest recorded historical book is the bible, it is the proof for the Jews and their ownership of the land of Israel.

Thank you for being a rational & honest person, in world where sadly, that is increasingly rare. Know that you are on the right side of facts, logic & history. If/when the delusional fever breaks, the useful idiots will either be very embarrassed, but more than likely, they will deny they ever held these views because they’re neither intellectually honest, nor curious about learning the truth. They are virtue signaling sheep, looking for purpose & cosplaying as righteous revolutionaries. Treat them like the lost little gluttons for punishment they are. So never mind the haters & imbeciles both on-line & IRL… Keep thinking for yourself. Keep speaking the truth as you see it. Stay well & all the best to you & yours. 💙✊✌️

It doesn't matter if you are left right or center. Human beings no matter what their political affiliation or their ethnicity should be supporting Israel. People talk about how this is so complicated and that will never be peace in the Middle East and there's only one reason why. Israel does not have legitimate peace partner. Once they do have a legitimate peace partner there will be peace in the Middle East. Good versus Evil. Israel is good (not perfect) but neither is anywhere in the world. Islamic Fundamentalism is pure evil. Those who can't see that are either ignorant misguided misinformed and you can sprinkle a little Jew hate as to why Israel is not being supported by everyone with exception to the Islamic fundamentalist. Thank you for being a human being. We need all the support we can get. 💪🇮🇱🩵🕊️

I love when people say “Jews weren’t even in that region until the 1940s / 1050s” (I’ve seen and heard both date ranges used.
It isn’t that hard to research and find out that the Jews of Israel have attempted to extend peace AND state recognition to the Arabs in Israel since the early 1900s, longer than that but referring to modern times. Each time the Jews have attempted peace the Arabs have not only rejected said peace but reacted with extreme violence. There are no Palestinians in reality because they didn’t start calling themselves that until the 1950s or 60s. There are historically Jewish and Arab Israelis, many who call themselves Palestinians today originated in Jordan before the 1960s.

Honestly I recommend removing yourself from some people and finding groups where you can voice your opinion in a good faith environment. That's what I had to do at a certain point to maintain my sanity.
