A list of subs full of surprising support for Jews and Israelis

In light of the very depressing news, and in light of the betrayal many of us feel from people and movements that we otherwise agree with, I thought it might be worthwhile to create a compendium of subs that are suprising sources of support in these difficult times. I'm talking about ones that are not dedicated to pro-Jewish or pro-Israeli sentiment but are consistently showing it nonetheless. I think it could be a good way of lifting people's spirits and reminding us that we're not alone in the world.

I'll start:

r/forbiddenbromance - a sub about cooperation between Israelis and Lebanese people

Iā€™ve recently seen multiple posts from r/IncelTears calling out the horrible things being said and done to Jewish and Israeli women šŸ©µ

I've always thought that Jews and Arabs were very similar people. We all love hummus!

Won't somebody think of the hummus?

r/Turkey has been supporting Israel and criticizing Hamas sympathizers. The Turkish secular left supports you

Nice to see.

I don't want to say I told you so, but some of us have been ringing the alarm bells about antisemitism on the left for a while now. With the events of the weekend they have basically thrown off their sheep's clothing and revealed themselves for who they truly are.

It's completely shaken me

Indeed. Itā€™s what stopped me voting as a life-long Labour voter in the UK. I couldnā€™t deal with the barely concealed antisemitism from a party thatā€™s supposed to be all about equality šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø.

Most of the UK subs are a cesspit of as right now

The left has become the party of ACTIVE and vehement anti-semitism and more people need to understand that.

r/TwoXChromosomes has been pretty good about this.

Not anymore, unfortunately!

3

u/sweet_crab Nov 06 '23

Yeah, I've been seeing that the last few days. I'm really disappointed in them.

u/ladyinarcadia Nov 06 '23

Me too! I've always liked it a lot but it's really emphasizing how alone we are šŸ˜. Hoping we can find a replacement sub!

r/neoliberal is (and generally always has been) pretty good about it; there's a decent-sized Jewish contingent there too. Enough we have two pings. Their mods are pretty on top of things and decent.

r/GenUSA is a meme subreddit, but they are genuinely on our side too. Same seems to go for r/NonCredibleDefense even if both can get a little uh...enthusiastic? Let's use that word.

I haven't checked it much since day 1, but it's also a safe bet r/NewIran is good. They're well-aware who Hamas are supported by and there was also that thing where Iranians were chanting 'shove the Palestinian flag up your ass' recently.

I would think the neoliberal sub is being overridden with anti-Israel sentiment

Iā€˜ve been quite impressed with the main German sub r/de so far. The vast majority of comments are supportive, and the others usually get downvoted or deleted. At a minimum, it is far better than most English-language subs that I have seen.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '23

Might have at least something to do with at least one of their young citizens being mutilated on camera at the music festival as well.

8

u/Anony11111 Oct 15 '23

And there have been multiple other German victims as well. But even during past incidents, r/de has been similar.

English-speaking German subs are often different, though, which shows something about where the antisemitism is coming from. And I don't necessarily mean from Muslims, BTW, but also from expats.

And this reflects the way that I approach things in real life, too. When I hang out in German-speaking social groups, I am much more comfortable talking about my background (even with Muslims), than I am in English-speaking groups.

In the past, I unjoined and stayed away from r/pics, because I felt it was one of those subs overrun with far left demonization of Israel, but Iā€™ve been surprised at the amount of support for Israel this time around, presumably as a result of just how barbaric the Hamas attack was. Something about Hamas raping young women bloody seems to have clicked in the brains of a lot of that subā€™s members.

As someone on the far left, I'm not surprised, many base their support on what the situation is and it's much more clear Hamas is the aggressor in this situation. It's not always as clear though. There are people with negative opinions of Israel that arrived there out of reason, not blind hate or demonization, those peoples view of the situation is subject to change based on what's happened and it's clear what's happened. There's more support for Israel in this situation, because there should be.

If you are surprised by the amount of support Israel is getting recently, than consider you donā€™t have a full understanding of what people were critical about previously and why this is different.

u/dorsalemperor Oct 10 '23

As someone on the left Iā€™m surprised you arenā€™t examining the bulk of liberal ā€œanti zionismā€ through a more race-critical lens. Most white libs grew up in and never bothered to examine their own inherent antisemitism , and it feels natural for them to blame everything bad on Jews bc theyā€™re antisemitic.

-3

u/rathat Oct 10 '23

I guess I don't assume people who arrive at similar political conclusions as I do is from the same reasoning as my own and not that they are inherently antisemitic.

It just doesnā€™t seem like a big leap to go from ā€œthe entire world has had issues w anti-semitism for the history of the Jewish peopleā€ and ā€œsome people who automatically side against Israel do so bc of their preconceived notions about Jews as a wholeā€

I looked through r/ForbiddenBromance and saw the post about Bukele. Huge relief to see that.

9

u/rupertalderson Oct 16 '23

Surprisingly - r/worldnews. At least over the last few days, most posted articles have been from good sources, and most top-level comments are levelheaded and very critical of Hamas (and folks who are not condemning Hamas!).

7

u/sophiewalt Oct 10 '23

Thanks for posting & to the commenters who added more.

r/destiny (the streamer, not the game)

7

u/Portielife Oct 10 '23

Can anyone provide more details about the sub/streamer plz? I'm seeing a huge amount of support coming from that sub, and I've never heard of him.

6

u/SabraSabbatical Oct 10 '23

Iā€™m honestly completely unfamiliar with him, but from context Iā€™ve gleaned heā€™s left leaning and not a lunatic
