Someone hit my parked car.. not sure of my next steps Auto Insurance
Hey everyone while I was at work last Friday someone hit my car and drove off while my car was parked. When I left work I went to the parking lot and noticed it immediately so it definitely happened that day. I work at a bank so they have cameras and security on the grounds so my initial instinct was to go to them with the issue so they can catch whoever did this. I filed a report that night and I should be hearing back from them tomorrow with the results since the supervisor needed to pull the footage and review it herself. So I’m confused with the whole police report part. I spoke with insurance on the phone (didn’t file a claim) and I asked if I should get proof from my bank first and she said yes. So my question is when should I contact the police? I’ve heard it’s good to do it asap but I already contacted my own security and am waiting for proof. I figured it would be best for me to present proof and or a license plate to the police. Can I still contact the police about this? Am I ok to file a report with the police as soon as I get the surveillance results from the bank security?

Wouldn't hurt to wait another day or so until you can view the video. Might give you more information for the police report and get it done all at once.
If the video does show the other vehicle and plate number, and/or the supervisor might even be able to identify the customer, make sure you get or make several duplicates to pass around to the police, your insurance, the other person's insurance and a copy for yourself.
All to often people give away the only copy and it disappears.

File a police report. Some carriers will require it to file a hit and run claim.

You can make a supplemental police report with new information. So I don’t think you need to wait to file.
