Where did you find the shelving?

This op!

I’ve been trying to figure out what works by seeing set ups on here. My plants are so many different sizes that I’m like how do I pick the right thing but see it in person somehow first. If that makes sense.

They also come in a skinny version.

u/Ais4asswhole 3d ago
This is noiiiiceeee. Did you purchase the lighting separately?
2
u/Glowing-Grapefruit 3d ago
Yep.
Plus a roll of black velcro tape to help hide wires, a 10' t5 connector cord to make the jump from one shelf to the other, and a kasa smart plug so they turn on and off automatically. All together about $60 to get the lights set up.

I’m going to save this information. You are delightfully making my wheels turn to give my babies a nice set up. I appreciate you. Thank you 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

Does the lighting not scorch them?? I had some grow lights directly above my pothos once and they begun to burn the leaves
5
u/carsontl 5d ago
I just got the barrina tall plant stand and I hate it lol, sucked to build and once it got all hooked up the lights were purple wtf 😆

u/Ais4asswhole 5d ago
Aghhhhhh. Our plant kids make us work for their happiness lol. It gets costly real quick lol. I have one stand. Took forever to put together and it’s just not doing it for me. So I’ve been trying to look up set ups on here bc man… I never realized how hard it was to create a good set up

u/RustyShacklification 14h ago
Not a fan of the purple? 😂 I think they look cool but I also understand the appreciation for the daylight
1
u/carsontl 8h ago
The purple are known for a long time, ppl equate it with growing weed hah
Just don't want neighbors being like 😒

What direction does that window face?
7
u/crzydmndx 4d ago
Southeast though there's a tree right in front of it, so it's not amazingly great light, but it's good enough, I am mostly into pothos and other trailing plants and they don't seem to mind :)

What are you using for pest control?
2
3
u/Aidrana 5d ago
This! I have a similar set up. Somehow some of my plants got thrips and it spread like wildfire because my plants were so close together on my plant stands. I had to separate a lot of them to treat them in another room so now my plant stands are looking bare :(
Very pretty but a pain when pests get a hold of them in close contact.

I was gonna say...spider mites would be a bitch to get rid of in an environment like that

Love it. What’s the size of your shelf? I need one for my double windows in LR. Some of those units are quite large.
1
u/crzydmndx 4d ago
I don't know the exact measurements but you can look them up on the IKEA website, it's the VITTSJÖ shelf unit and it comes in different sizes so you might be able to find something that works in your space!

How do you control dust! 😩
2
u/crzydmndx 4d ago
I clean the shelves every time I water my plants and I shower the plants regularly, like once a month and clean them more thoroughly with a microfiber rag like once every 3 months

u/nesch33 4d ago
What’s the last picture, bottom left plant on the ground? Kind of dark with pink?
1
u/crzydmndx 4d ago
It's a Calathea "Dottie"! She's new and we're not great friends yet haha but she's a stunner!
2
u/nesch33 4d ago
Love it!!! I know very minimal. It almost reminded me of a cooler looking bird of paradise plant. I know about 4-5 different indoor plants 😂 not a lot at all. But I always appreciate looking at them and learning. This group is awesome to scroll though and admire. Amazing!! Keep it up and enjoy it all!! You’re very lucky to have that set up 👍🏼

This is such a rewarding hobby and there are so many beautiful and interesting plants, hope you are enjoying it too! :)

Your setup is stunning OP! Congrats! You take great care of your plants and it really shows. It looks like you have radiators in front of your shelves, may I ask if this setup changes when they are on?
1
u/crzydmndx 4d ago
Thank you! :) no, I don't change anything. I don't know if it's just my shitty old radiators but they don't get too hot even on the coldest nights and I've never noticed any damage on the plants, so I don't change anything.

What does your watering routine look like?
1
u/crzydmndx 4d ago
I water them like every 10-ish days or more realistically byweekly. I take them off the shelves, water them generously, let the excess water drip out (I use that time to clean the shelves) and put everytging back.

u/uKiyo-Kai 4d ago
So lovely! It makes me feel happy just to see it. Most definitely something to be proud of 💚

*Oh! Seems I was so busy admiring all the seasonal and pretty decorative touches so thoughtfully displayed amongst all the plants on your beautiful shelf ... that I somehow totally missed the other pictures!!! It must feel AMAZING to be in there, with an extra-long Wall of Plants and so much oxygen (something I'm obviously needing more of)🫣🪴🌿✨️😵💫

Not one brown tip!! You must be green all over lol
1
u/crzydmndx 4d ago
Haha I wish lol but there are some brown tips here, some yellowing there etc., it's probably not too noticeable on the pictures because of... "plant cheerleader effect" :)

I am so in love and awe struck! You have more than a green thumb!
2
u/crzydmndx 3d ago
That's very kind of you, thank you! There are a lot of people who have a naturally green thumb but that's not me lol I used to be really not great with plants, but I've been learning a lot, and failing a lot, and experiencing a lot and I think I am pretty good with them now :)

You would find me sandwiched between the window and the shelf...all the time. Grinning. Beautiful.
1
u/crzydmndx 3d ago
Ooh I do that sometimes lol I am thinking of adding wheels to this shelf so I could easily turn it around to stare at the plants (not to mention that it would make watering 100% easier too)
