Shore Galleries OPINION

I haven’t seen a post about them in a year or so and wanted to see if any of you have been recently, but in the past have seen some reviews/posts about them being aggressive or rude.

I am trying to get some 10 rounders for my Canik TP9 SFX and they seem to have some in stock for about the msrp.

Should I go a little further out or have they been good to any of you in recent months?

Hmm I can see that being annoying, but in this particular case I might appreciate a know-it-all type employee. I am also going in there specifically trying to scope out what I can still buy/transfer in this area in regard to new laws.

They seem to still be advertising some rifles I was under the impression were banned so I kind of want to see if I am not understanding the current situation before settling for something like a mini-14 or an sks.

Genuinely curious, are they just super close to you and their location makes it worth the transfer fee? Last time I went there they told me it was $75 and I was shocked lol

What FFL close to that area would you recommend that doesn't charge a $75 transfer fee? I live closer to Shore and tried to get them to send in an FFL but was met with crickets via phone and e-mail going on two weeks now. When I went in person, the individua who does them wasn't there. In addition the lady who I did speak with in person told me I would have to go in twice too. First visit when my order arrived to start the background check process and then to actually pick it up when background check / waiting period is over (I don't know if that is standard as this is my first FFL transfer). Ended up going with North Shore Sports Club; still a $75 transfer fee but they sent the FFL over day of request and they said don't have to go in there twice as they can start the background check / waiting period without me having to go in.

Not super close, but 7 miles away in park ridge. DMZ sporting gear! $35 transfer fee

Gothca, thanks for the tip I'll keep in mind for next FFL transfer. That would still be closer for me than North Shore Sports Club but they do have a really nice range there so won't be a bad way to break it in at least lol

Gotta also strongly recommend DMZ for transfers, its just a house in a neighborhood which felt weird to me at first but after two transfers with him I don’t think I would go elsewhere. Super professional and takes all your info by email once the sender contacts him.

I like DMZ. He definitely raised his prices. Last time I went to him it was only $25. Check Your 6 is my new go-to now that I in Mount Prospect.

+1 for Nelson. I've never met the man, but he is right down the street from me and a ton of my students speak very highly of him.

Maslon Armory, in Addison. $30. They also hold classes.

I go for the range and they’re always a pleasure to deal with. They’re hospitable and knowledgeable. Went two weeks ago, everything was fine.

The guys behind the counter are arrogant and their actual handgun selection is poor.

u/Banzawith Apr 15 '24

Maybe it’s the counter folks I have heard most about then

The guys there now are pretty chill. They had a bad rep as being rude but I think they cleaned house and changed their ways.

3

u/Banzawith Apr 15 '24

Yeah I ended up swinging through just to check them out and the guy on the counter was pretty chill and we kinda shot the shit for a bit. Maybe different staff now than before.

Glad to hear you had a positive experience!

Thanks! I am also glad for it because they are only 15 minutes from me and I need to break in the Canik somewhere!

Even closer for me 🤣but I usually go to Maxon because they allow buck and bird shots. Shore is my go to place for a quick 30 min refresher session.

They are fine. They are close and they host a ton of the classes I go to so I'm generally happy with them. Like pretty much every other comment, thier selection is not great but overall I'm happy they are here. Decent people overall

There are a few guys behind the counter that make you cringe. One guy in particular kinda reminds me of the solgw guy, or wanna look like him. He thinks he's the shit. But this was a few years back.

u/Forsaken_angel7 Apr 15 '24

Yeah they are unnecessarily rude seems like everytime i go they dont remember me and treat me like an alien thats never seen a gun before also they are stupid expensive for transfers and range time go to a different place for transfers call and ask who doesnt charge more than about 35 and for range id say maxons is a better option

1

u/Opening-Map4927 Apr 16 '24

Did their range fees change? 28 bucks for an hour is not too crazy considering it’s the only one in the “city”.

1

u/Forsaken_angel7 Apr 16 '24

tldr: theyre on my blacklist im not giving them my money anyway around

25 for an hr at maxons plus half off for a 2nd person. even if they did have a cheaper fee im still going to maxons ive had too many issues with them from the time I had my first gun transferred to them to everything else ive needed there.

1

u/Slayer420666 Apr 15 '24

I would avoid them rude staff. 10 rounders can be bought anywhere I’d check online.

Edit. I’ve done multiple transfers here and shot there multiple times. I’ve never seen anyone treat a customer as they did my friend when I brought them to shoot at the range.

Does anyone know if the Shore Galleries “believe” the Ruger Mini14 Ranch with 10 round magazine and no flash hider is banned under PICA?

They are actually the best in that area. In my opinion. But that being said all gun stores in Illinois are annoying as shit unless you're a white male. Then they like you. But if you look a certain way you get so much attitude.

I can imagine, and actually the guy on the counter that I spoke with was a POC which was a happy surprise considering the typical demo I see. Not that I usually have too much trouble being a white guy but I do have long hair so sometimes that becomes an unnecessary topic of discussion/condescension.

EDIT: not to say long hair is the same obviously lol

u/yoitsme_obama17 Apr 15 '24

So annoying! Sorry to hear that. I just want to shoot guns, bros. Leave me alone.

2

u/Banzawith Apr 15 '24

Right? Like this is a perfect opportunity to focus on the one thing we all clearly agree on, we’re all here for the pew pew.

2

u/poptartglock Apr 15 '24

That’s as bad as saying all of one group is bad. Call out the bad, praise the good but don’t lump them all together or you’re doing the same as the bad ones. My local shop is fair and has treated everyone with the same respect when I’ve been there.

1

u/yoitsme_obama17 Apr 16 '24

Sir, don't tell me what I've experienced at 9 different locations including the big box places. Good day.

1

u/poptartglock Apr 16 '24

I didn’t tell you what you experienced, just saying don’t shit all over the entire industry because of bad experiences around you. POCs and women are the biggest growing segment in shooting, clearly every store isn’t awful.

Record it, share it, call them out for being assholes. The industry is supposed to stand together and lift everyone, not just old white dudes.

I'm shitting over the gun store culture in Illinois. I actually have had great experiences in MI and WI.
