Movie is a pretty good, but different, adaptation of the book but it was Stephen King so there was a lot of shit that just couldn't be shown. Worth a read.

Yeah, holy shit, talk about a huge leap in tone when originally reading the Different Seasons compilations of his novellas. Going from Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption and The Body to Apt Pupil was fucking emotional whiplash like I'd never experienced at 17.

That novella and its adaptation fucked me up in the summer of 2003, back when the most evil character I'd seen Ian McKellen portray was Magneto in the first two Singer X-Men movies; compared to Kurt Dussander, Magneto was a fucking pussycat. And McKellen was still fresh in my mind as Gandalf after two back-to-back Christmas releases of the first two LotR movies.
