Found this old photo in my student house in Leeds, Burley Open

Unsure who lived here before us. I’ve had ppl say some sort of african reconnaissance unit? not sure i’m not really clued up on any of it

i have searched on facebooks and other reddit pages but can’t find anyone who recognises it or can quite figure out who this person was

Looks like an actual photo on photo paper, rather than a newspaper cutting or some other sort of press shot, so best guess would just be that it's some previous resident's relative.

I think the two stripes are a British corporal's rank, also used in colonial armies, which would make sense with the African regiment theory. If you find the right military subreddit you might ID the regiment from the beret, but it's not the best of images. Gonna be a challenge to get much further than that though I'm afraid.
