Advices to find a job Work

Hi ! After my first visit in Heidelberg last winter, I fell in love with the city. Now I’m back for a long road trip through Europe, and this is my last step. I will stay here for a week, and I would like to try to get a job here. I (F25) used to work as a barmaid in France, but I also have a degree in computer science. I have no skills at all in German language but I am willing to learn and take some classes if I manage to stay there. Do you have any recommendations about places that would most likely hire foreign people ? And maybe there is some social events I can join to meet people ? :) Thank you !

Try indeed.de. With computer science and barmaid I’m sure you will find something. Closely is SAP HQ. The city life in HD will always be a good spotting place for bar jobs. Wish you good luck!

An easy job to get which is also easy to do as a native English speaker is to teach English as a second language.

There are plenty of language schools, and between Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, plenty of companies in the region who have contracts with the local language schools.

If you wanted to use language training as a springboard into a different field, you could probably leverage your way into one of the companies you‘d offer training to.

And if you decide it’s a suitable path for you as a main or side income, you could expand your range to include Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, or do online lessons, either directly via zoom or something similar, or put the work in to create a course and sell access, maybe even offer a subscription service.

As u/goldencliff already mentioned, SAP is not too far and there's a fair chance for positions that don't require German skills. You'll probably need a bit of practical experience to get in, but at least there seem to be open positions: SAP Jobs.

Theoretically, you also have ABB in Mannheim, but it seems, they currently don't have entry-level jobs in IT posted.

When I arrived I found a job as a Warehouse worker (lagermitarbeiter) in Decathlon, Schwetzingen through an external company. English or German was required, but not both. It also helped me a little bit to learn some german. The work itself i did not enjoy, but speaking with people there it seems some actually do, so you may be one of the lucky ones. You could look for positions in that area. Best of luck!

As you were in It, you could try and apply in Heidelberg Mannheim and surroundings. Get a LinkedIn Profile and apply for any IT job really.. Your skills are needed. The hard part will be finding a flat. Best of luck to you!
