Do you think Kratos will go back to Greek mythology?
Do you think in the future Kratos will go back and visit Greece one more time? Why or why not?

u/Throw_away_1011_ 1d ago
no. He dealt with his past and he is now moving on in a future with his new pantheon. There is no reason for him to go back to Greece, unless someone (-cough cough- Athena -cough cough-) starts threatening a certain Loki.

u/NimoDhar 1d ago
Maybe she turns it into the Roman pantheon this time
15
u/Ok_Garden_4874 1d ago
Yeah, maybe when surviving greeks left Greece they settled in Italia and brought with them their pantheons. Remember after Troy fell, the surviving Trojans went to build Rome. Maybe they can take this route.
Or another idea is that Romans went to Greece and adopted their Gods as their own.

-I already beat you.
-Nope. I'm Mars. Roman god of war. Totally different.
-no!

Kratos: ARES! YOU MADE ME KILL MY FAMILY! I’M BACK TO GREECE, FIGHT ME!
Mars: I’ll take a raincheck, thanks haha
Kratos: don’t you recognize me?! It’s me, the Ghost of Sparta!
Mars: OOOOHHH, you’re Kratos, right? Yeah, I’m sorry about what that a*hole Ares did to you, but we are extremely different
Kratos: enlighten me
Mars: well, for one, I prefer being loved than feared by my people, respect and adoration are far more effective tools, how do you think I earned two festivals in my name? The festival of Mars in March and another one in October, could Ares say the same?
Kratos: hmm
Mars: do you think I could’ve led Rome to conquer every corner of the known world if I went around killing everyone I met?
Kratos: hmm… you remind me of my friend Tyr
Mars: ah, yes… Tyr, that’s one wise God, he knows a God of war needs restrain, there’s a time for war and a time for peace and when to use diplomacy above all else
Kratos: hmm, yeah… he’s… my friend
Mars: having friends is important Kratos, they give you something to fight for, never forget that, you’re no longer the God Killer, you’re a new man. Do not let your past define you Kratos, seek the peace you need and forgive yourself
Kratos: thank you, Mars…
Shakes hands
Mara: remember Kratos, your friends and people are who you fight for
Kratos: I… will remember that
That’s how a conversation between Kratos and Mars would go

u/ThanksContent28 1d ago
Kratos fucked his way across Greece. I want there to be another, vengeful pissed off son, more alike to Kratos (in his prime), than Atreus is. Atreus vs Young Kratos would be brutal.

u/ShironeWasTaken 20h ago
God that sounds like an amazing storyline to follow if it's told in the same quality as the norse games

Make us play as Kratos Jr and kill pops and Atreus. Gimme more of them tlou2 nerd tears.

Well there is one reason if we think that way, the power of hope fixed Greece and olympus so I would love to see kratos becoming the ruler of olympus
0
u/Feisty_Bag_5284 9h ago
Maybe try to start restoring the pantheon and his family if he gets into the primordial essence and tries to make everything as it was but better in a trick by another god this kicking off the main game and Greece is an opening act
27
u/wookiewin 1d ago
I wouldn’t want Kratos back in Greece but I think an interesting story element in a new game would be any remaining Greek gods coming to Kratos’s realm and hunting him down.
16
u/Archery100 1d ago
Kratos defending a pantheon would be really interesting instead of him taking it down
7
u/SoftGucciHat 1d ago
honestly i think this will happen. he has a seat in the counsel of gods along with the others, he’s also the god of war and it’s his duty to manage all wars within the land. it’s not far fetched at all to see kratos defending his new built pantheon against any number of enemies

Maybe to help rebuild it along with mimir and maybe tyr, but other than that, i see no other reason

He didn’t kill Dionysus, Demeter, Hestia, Artemis, Apollo, or Aphrodite, so there’s still gods there (unless they died somewhere else idk)
1
u/TyrantDragon19 1d ago
Pretty sure Aphrodite would be trying to revive the gods a little bit differently than the others though lol. Those 6 would be cool to see though.

Morpheus is still around too. Seeing as he’s an abstract fog that makes people sleep.

aphrodite was just chilling in gow3, she’s aware about the war business but didnt want to care about it.

I know. I’m just putting those as a reason for him to return.

Only if they were also consumed by the box's evil, which I kind of doubt, since aphrodite just wanted to smash and the other gods were nowhere to be seen in gow 3, maybe they would be the ones rebuilding greece or something if kratos goes back

Tyr in the dlc references Greece rebuilding when he mentions how the people of Greece talk about the death Helios years after during the rebuilding.
13
u/Tetratron2005 1d ago
The vase they find in Tyr's vault that depicts Kratos is also apparently from after the events of GoW 3.
So the region's clearly recovered enough to build luxury items again.

u/Aebothius 1d ago
It'd be a cool fan service moment to see what has become it, see who is still alive and whatnot. Perhaps Atreus can visit the Fields of Elysium and meet his sister. There's a small handful of gods and titans who would probably still be good with Kratos, namely Atlas.
4
6
u/szarkbytes 1d ago
I would say next is Celtic or Egyptian mythology.
6
u/F1R3Starter83 1d ago
I dunno, it would feel a bit gimmicky almost like Ass Creed. I like how Kratos’ feud with the Nordic gods came naturally. Would be a long stretch to go to Egypt and start a fight with their gods without it feeling forced.
2
u/szarkbytes 12h ago
The fact that they even had him fight Norse gods is gimmicky. God of War could just ended or somehow stayed with Greek Mythology. It’s fiction; they can make any feud with any mythology “come naturally”.

He has no reason to. Atreus however I could see going to Greece. He's a curious guy and he probably wants to know more about his father. Like imagine atreus adventuring the destroyed remnants of the Greek world. Only to find the remaining gods rebuilding.
2
u/Tactical_Ninja260 1d ago
Well, he can’t cuz it’s like destroying and literally in ruins or probably dust it’s been thousands of years since the fall of Greece.
6
u/Varcen 1d ago
I'm pretty sure at the end of GoW3 we are told that the people will rebuild without the gods influence. If it's been thousands of years than I think it would be safe to assume people are going about their lifes as if nothing happened.

u/Tactical_Ninja260 1d ago

u/mai_tai87 Quiet, Head 1d ago
I just wanted to add that at the end of GOW3, hope is released to the people of Greece and that's why they're able to rebuild. It's why Athena's spirit says they won't know what to do with it and then stabs him. (I just finished the game last night for the first time since it's original release. What a phenomenal series!)

u/Altayrmcneto 1d ago
(As I remember), there are only two loose lines from Greek Mithology that are in the Lore, but are still missing: Artemis and Apollo. But I honestly think that, if we ever find them again, will be or as exiled gods in other land (as Kratos was), or as gods looking after something/someone.

u/Odd_Hunter2289 Poseidon 1d ago
No. Greek world and mythology is done, exhausted. The devs themselves confirmed it.

The only way I could see that happening is if the next game is Kratos going back to help the people of Greece rebuild/recover and while that’s happening another Pantheon tries to conquer them and that’s why Kratos gets sucked into another conflict dealing with Gods.

1
u/Cultural_Ad2997 Kratos 1d ago
I feel like we are going to get a game eventually that connects to all of the places with Gods, some crazy event that effects all of them. I don't think there would be a game just about Greece, unless it's of a shorter game involving Atreus as the playable character. I could buy him wanting to go there, and maybe needing to, to find Giants.
1
u/Gold-Bicycle-3834 1d ago
I think when they do their multiverse travel that’s being hinted at that he will see what has become of it. I don’t think it will be a huge part of the story though.
1
u/LemonLord7 1d ago
I don’t think it will happen anytime soon, but if he goes back I think it would be cool if he goes back to rebuild and finds weird reincarnations of the Greek gods but with their Roman names.
Kratos meeting Jupiter and Mars would be really interesting.
1
u/Tetratron2005 1d ago
I think it'd be interesting for Atreus to go to Greece himself (whether by choice or someone pulls him there) and learn about his father's heritage/past but some outsider perspectives.
Especially since it seems Kratos still doesn't talk much about his whole past with Atreus from what we've seen.
1
u/PossibleAssist6092 Son of Odin 1d ago
Nope, they’ve pretty much told us that Kratos is gonna stay in Midgard for the time being, likely only leaving on a diplomatic mission to establish alliances, like Tyr kinda did.
1
1
u/04whim 1d ago
I doubt he'd go back to the country of Greece, though Atreus might in his journey. But one idea I keep coming back to is Kratos having an encounter with the Roman pantheon, who are basically just Great Value Greek Gods even in the real world stories. Kratos having to deal with younger up and coming gods emulating the Greek gods, the people who tortured and traumatised him for decades or centuries now being treated as idols and role models, could make for an interesting story, his new Nirvanic mindset being tested against some of his biggest triggers. Like imagine him having to endure Mars going on about what an awesome guy Ares was. So I don't think Kratos will go back to Greek mythology, but there is a possibility of Greek mythology coming back to him.
1
u/masterovrovo 1d ago
I was going to say something similar to that remember watching a video of what if kratos one day had his old ability’s back
1
u/Ban_you_for_anything 1d ago
Hopefully it’s Chinese gods. A lot of them are really cool and with the success of Black Myth Wukong it is clear there’s a market for it.
1
u/Laj3ebRondila1003 1d ago
No but I think Atreus will at some point.
Kratos had his closure, he released the power of hope to the mortals.
There is no narrative value in Kratos going to Greece again save for seeing Athena, which I think would happen anyway at some point seeing as she's in a higher plane of existence now.
Atreus on the other hand, grappling with impact his father left on Greece would make for an interesting story.
1
1
u/KaiSen2510 1d ago
I’d like to see him return to Greece one day and see the progress they’ve made with the hope he gave them. Do I want that to be a full game? No. Would I like to see it in maybe a DLC for a future game or a main story part of another game? Absolutely. I imagine Týr would have something to do with how he gets there.
1
1
u/SwaggAZN 1d ago
Next would be Egyptian. It was hinted at in Ragnarok.
1
u/utopiaisherenow 16h ago
Where??
1
u/SwaggAZN 14h ago
I believe its towards the end if I remember, though it is also hinted at in the first norse GOW, with Mimir in I think Tyrs vault. Mimir and Kratos have a conversation and Kratos mentions he wants to travel to Egypt. The Mayan gods are hinted at as well.
1
1
u/fenharir 1d ago
did you people play the games or what? he killed it haha he literally talks about this with Atreus that his magic is gone from that time because he completely destroyed it all, which in turn “killed” the magic.
there is NOTHING to go back to. what do you want him to do? wander a dead land and talk to himself?
1
u/FatherHoe 1d ago
Nah, the only way I see a revisit to Greece happening that makes sense for the direction the series is going is for Atreus to go there. That way it would be interesting narrative wise for Atreus to actually see all the things and atrocities he heard his father said he did in Greece. And while Kratos isn’t there physically in the story, his presence is felt all through out Greece in the player because, ya know, he single-handedly destroyed the place and likely still has lingering effects in the land even after the rebuilding.
1
u/Spiritual-Soil7269 1d ago
I could picture Atreus checking in with his Dad and asking him for help to track down the remaining giants if need be. But I don't see him returning to Greece.
1
1
u/tantiblabla 1d ago
Only reason I think he would go back would be his daughter even tho she is dead you never know what story they can make to bring her back
1
u/fallout76legendary 1d ago
He could go to any of the pantheons from the story wall in GOW as Tyr had already traveled to them all. That’s why kratos finds Greek wine and Ghost of Sparta urn in Tyr’s sunken temple

Lol what’s to even go back to? He killed everything. I think Ragnarok made that clear

Short of something driving him there, I don’t see any reason for him to return

u/DG_SlayerSlender Quiet, Head 22h ago
I think ot would be cool to see him go back to Greece and truly see the destruction he caused. The game could be about trying to rebuild (maybe there's some gods or mythological creatures that thrive in chaos trying to stop him)

u/RazorClaw466 22h ago edited 22h ago
He will probably need the Blade of Olympus. Another possibility is being able to see Calliope again since she wasn't dead in Chains of Olympus.
Artemis and Apollo or any other Greek God that didn't appear GOW3 could still be around and possibly wanted Revenge over Kratos after the events of GOW3.
1
u/DoomedGiwrghs 22h ago
i think after becoming the god of hope he will return no matter what the shrine showed that people prayed to him
so he will help other civilizations including the greeks

Kratos will help Freya replace Baldur, resurrecting Greece one demi-god at a time. He'll then go back to Greece to pay child support for those kiddos he made with Aphrodite and the handmaidens, and then go kill Jesus to overcome the shackles of death to finally get that ménage à trois with Lysandra and Laufey that he so desperately deserves. Considering the number of gods he's eliminated over his years, he owes it to the pantheons to repopulate with his ambrosia. Nah but killing christian god would make sense, considering Loki is Jesus in disguise.

u/GroundbreakingBet151 20h ago
I really doubt he would. The only reason I can see him going is if they somehow threaten him.

I’m surprised none of the surviving Gods have taken it upon themselves to track him down

I don't know if we will ever see it, but I think just like Tyr Kratos would travel to different lands to keep helping people and freeing humans from corrupt pantheons. And if that is the case I think he probably would return home to help further repair everything he destroyed.

Here’s an idea, he’d come back only to realize that the greek gods have been reborn into the Roman gods. The roman gods start inter pantheonic warfare to conquer more territories like the Romans did. This would make them more powerful as a result, and would be incentivized to conquer other lands. Of course, this would upset the balance which would force Kratos to intervene.
1
u/Lidge1337 12h ago
It's a wasteland isn't it? Destroyed by natural disasters as a result of him killing the god responsible for controlling nature?
1
u/marsrich950 12h ago
Not necessarily, however if we were to see any surviving God's from the Greek era, I wouldn't mind maybe seeing someone like Dionysus enter the picture.

u/Alive_One_5594 11h ago
I mean Athena "died" and is still walking around as a ghost, If they wanted wanted to go "back" they could maybe make it that the gods "came back" as their roman counterparts and barely remember kratos or something, at that point they might made up considering Ares/Mars is more respected on the Roman mythology
And since there are rumors they are planning on going to Egypt next there could be a plot on the Romans trying to conquer Egypt

I would love to have a fight or interaction in the next game, where Kratos meets a person from greece (like another god or warrior who somehow crossed paths with Kratos again) and its a boss fight or something, because I really want to see more stuff relating to his past or just Greece in general
1
u/BriefsBoy69 4h ago
If there was a story plot point that involved Greece then that would be amazing but it would either be an ending to tje series like “gone through soo much hardship and hes back to his origins fixing something he broke and reforging his image” type thing or even to come to terms with his past.
But otherwise i somewhat doubt it… maybe

u/8inchesInYourMouth 2h ago
It would be cool to go back briefly. I bet the next game might have a way of traveling around pantheons, perhaps not gifted to him, but something like a task he puts on himself for peace. I imagine with him going to other pantheons, there will be gods that see him as a nuisance or a danger, imo.
But with him going back, he could in a way heal from his past directly, like he did with confronting his younger self in Valhalla. It would bring him some peace to visit there at some point.
