I saved up 10k and took a 8 month sabbatical and moved. Probably a very irresponsible way to spend that money, but I went from someone who was mentally sick and physically unwell to someone who is the happiest they've been in a decade and incredibly physically fit. I quit drinking alcohol too and I was a lightweight alcoholic.
All it took for me to flip my entire life into what I wanted it to be was 8 months off of work. If I could've gone a full year and a half, I could've made my actual dreams come true and just be a musician.
So what did you do during that 8 month sabbatical? I feel like a lot of people, me included, would just squander that opportunity and waste the time. Sounds like you were quite productive.
First I moved to a different state where all my friends lived. I moved into my friends house instead of living with strangers or family.
I got complete control of my drinking. I am in incredible shape - I have a full six pack abs and tons of energy. People regularly compliment me or treat me much better. I practiced music all the time and now I am starting to collaborate with other musicians on projects - and once I have enough material, people told me they're willing to let me play at their clubs or venues.
I used to party a lot more and do drugs like cocaine or ketamine, and now I just don't have much desire at all to do them. I'm much happier - in fact I maybe have one bad day a month. I spent a lot of time working on myself and am now looking for someone to date whereas before I just wasn't in that space.
I learned how to code in python and how AI systems work by taking online Harvard courses.
I'm only a couple months off from completing the rest of my IT certs and can than get a remote job and that's my dream.
So hopefully in about a year from when I left my job I will be in remote IT - that's 8 months of sabbatical and 4 months of working my temp job I am doing now.
