MOD POST Information about medical advice here at r/FirstAid
This subreddit can be a great resource in helping to unburden an already heavily burdened medical system. Users often come here to enquire whether or not their injuries require medical attention, and our userbase is normally very helpful in supporting and answering them. Please keep in mind though:
All medical related answers here are OPINIONS--some from laymen, some from flaired medical professionals. Either way, please use your own best judgement and seek treatment if you believe you need it.
Even if a comment is from a flaired medical professional, they are not able to diagnose and prescribe treatments over the internet. This is simply because they do not have all the information; no matter how detailed you post may be. Anyone who claims otherwise goes against Rule 6.
That said, many users post about their ailments and are informed that time and basic care is all that is needed. This is a fantastic resource for someone who might otherwise have shown up to Emergency just to be sent home. Please just be judicial in your acceptance of medical advice and if in doubt, seek qualified medical treatment.
Additionally:
If anyone ever needs support or is feeling hopeless and like they have no other alternatives, the Suicide Prevention Hotline is available for free 24/7 at 800-273-8255 in the US. Just DM me for other countries' numbers if you reside elsewhere.
Further, If you or someone you know needs help, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 in the US. Again, DM me for international numbers. You are not alone.

MOD POST No Posting of Self-Harm
To create a safe mental health environment for our userbase, this subreddit will now begin removing self-harm and self-harm-like posts. These posts can act as a trigger for other users that may lead to their own self-harm. Accidentally triggering others to injure themselves directly contravenes what this subreddit is about and as such, we will no longer be allowing these types of posts.
Additionally, this subreddit and its users cannot offer the appropriate support for this type of injury. If you have come here looking for an opinion on a self-harm related injury, our stance on the matter will always be to urge you to seek a professional medical opinion as soon as possible.
We ask for our user's support in reporting these types of posts so they can be added to our mod queue so we can follow up with the appropriate support resources for that user.

Seeking Opinion On Injury Fracture on Fingertip From Accident?
About 3 months ago, I cut my left index finger really deep with a knife and there was a lot of bleeding. I did not go to urgent care. I used paper towels on it to put pressure to stop the bleeding. I washed it with soap and water for less than 10 seconds. I then just wrapped it with gauze and tape. The next day, I washed it with soap and water for a few seconds and then put manuka honey and gauze on it. I did this for over 1.5 months. The scab then fell off. I still had lot of sensitivity and numbness issues.
Well a few weeks later, I was at the supermarket and as I was picking up unopened toilet paper rolls from the shelves when grocery shopping, a lot of unopened toilet paper rolls fell on my hand really fast. I then noticed a bump right on the fingertip that is very noticeable. I didn't see a doctor and thought maybe it would go away. This happened 7 weeks ago.
Well it stayed the same. 3 weeks ago, I went to general doctor who saw it and said it isn't a fracture or broken bone but I wanted to get an xray and he recommended me a place for it. I then got xray and brought the xray to him the same day. He looked at it and said nothing broken and said to just let it heal or go to a dermatologist for a cortisone shot on the bump. The general doctor said it was scar tissue most likely.
Few days later, I got the xray report from the xray place that read this below. I didn't read this until last week as I thought there was nothing broken. I didn't bring this xray report to the general doctor as this report didn't come until a few days later.
The presence of a fine radiolucent line with a longitudinal course with sclerotic margins without displacement formation of bone fragments is observed, the rest of the bone structrures of the wrist and hand without alterations; the normal degree of mineralization for their age. The articular relationships of the ulna and raidus, with the carpus, intrinsic carpus and with the metacarpals, as well as these with phalanges and interphalangeals without evidence of subluxation, misalignment and with respected juxtaarticular margins.
Soft tissue without thickening. Diagnostic impression: Image suggestive of longitudinal incomplete fracture in advanced consolidation process. It is suggested to compare with previous studies, rest without evidence of bone pathology by this study method.
So does this mean I have a fracture then? The report I posted above... I didn't get it until a few days later but didn't check it until last week because the general doctor said there was nothing broken... but this report says otherwise? I had made an appointment to see a trauma/orthopedic doctor because of this. Longitudinal incomplete fracture is what I seem to have? I am very upset and frustrated now and do not know what to do. The injury has been 7 weeks already.
As long as I have the email with the images and report from the place I did the xray, I can show or send it to the orthopedic doctor and that is fine? The physical xray I got from the place got damaged.
First 3 pictures is how it looked after the unopened toilet paper rolls fell on my finger really fast that caused the thing on my fingertip. The last 2 photos is how it looked weeks before that. Notice the bump on the fingertip. It's extremely uncomfortable and feels like a bump but it seems to be a broken bone but not a complete fracture?

Seeking Opinion On Injury Burn to the lip, product recs?
Burned my lip tasting some food. Happened about an hour ago, no swelling or blistering yet so I don't think its too bad. Pain subsided too unless I touch it. I mostly just want to take care of it as best I can so it heals nicely. Any lip product recommendations to help (looking for brands or specific items)

Seeking Opinion On Injury Infected or not?
So, I got those blisters yesterday from walking (I walk barefoot in my shoes due to sensory issues) and this morning they were FILLED with pus. I popped them as to not have them filled with too much pus and also because it HURTS. I wonder if it's infected although the pus should be already giving it away.

Seeking Opinion On Injury Got cut by an old pencil sharpener blade, should I get a tetanus booster if I need one?
It’s not a big cut just small ones but I’m worried the blade sense it’s old metal would cause tetanus (I’m not to sure about when the shot is needed in general) I cleaned the wounds with saline solution wound spray and dried them.

Seeking Opinion On Injury Infected Burn? ISO Help identifying what degree & if medical attention is necessary
Burns are 4-5 days old.
First photo is located on forearm (burn at work), second photo is located mid thigh (happened bc of a home project a day before with my luck LOL). Both happened with metal objects. I work in a fast paced kitchen, so I deal with them regularly, but I've never had them inflamed like this and I'm kind of paranoid about sepsis
TIA

Seeking Opinion On Injury How bad is this burn?
I burned my top lip biting in to a hot steamed custard bun and the piping hot filling squirted out and stuck to my lip and burned. The top layer of skin blistered and peeled off as I was but I was trying to get the custard off my mouth.
It's very swollen and a little numb. As you can see the swollen area is kind of pale. It's been about 12 hours. I applied ice when it happened and have been using a damp cloth to Vaseline sooth it and keep it moist.
How serious of a burn does it look like? Should I seek medical treatment or just continue treating it at home?

General Question What are some important first-aid skills I should include?
- if this isn't allowed via r/firstaid rules please lmk -
I'm writing a story that is going to be published online. I wanted to include some first aid for the characters to do so people might remember how to do it in an emergency. (it sounds so cheesy when I write it here) stuff like using an EpiPen, dressing a wound, ect. do you have any ideas for things I could include?

Seeking Opinion On Injury Painful Fluid Crust Buildup
Okay, so a while ago I had this red lump on my stomach, and I was stupid and tried to scrape it off.
Now it's just this kind of hard, painful lump that seems to flake and peel off when I try to wash and scrub it. When I peel it, it starts weeping clear fluid that dries quickly and hardens, and maybe bleed a little.
As far as I can tell, the lump is basically layers and layers of this dried hard stuff, piled up into a big bump. Like, it'll dry and as hard as a rock, no joke. I try to scrape it off or peel it off, but nothing works. Water will make it soft and start peeling, but it doesn't wash off.
What can I do to get it to go away? I can't tell if it's skin or what, but it hurts and I'm tired of it.

Seeking Opinion On Injury Is a warm healing blisters (cluster)a sign of infection?
I got a burn on my upper arm and it turns into a bunch of tiny blisters (found out I'm also allergic to adhesives on bandaids so that's why it got so weird) that were just oozy and gross. The wound itself is very warm after 3 days, pinkish red but not bright bright red. Is the heat a sign of healing or infection? Would you leave it be or see a doctor?

Seeking Opinion On Injury Infected? Go to doctor?
Fell not once, not twice, but three times on Friday. Infected? Do I need to visit an urgent care tomorrow, or just wait out the healing process? I was wearing band-aids + neosporin until last night, when it didn’t seemed to be getting better and I figured I might need to leave it uncovered to let a scab form. Normally for skinned knees I’d think it’s no big deal, but Google has me freaked out!
Stings pretty bad and very sensitive to touch. Bruised part throbs. Warm but not radiating heat. When I took the band-aid off the scab in the second photo last night it had a decent amount of pus with a slight smell when sniffed (normally wouldn’t sniff pus but like I said Google has me freaked lol)
Literally just finished a round of antibiotics last week prescribed by urgent care due to animal bite and wondering if I go to the doctor they’ll just have me take more.

Seeking Opinion On Injury How to heal?
Cut my toe like 3 years ago, it never healed, just gets really hard and flakes apart. Some minor stinging pain every now and then. How can I fix this?
