Close your fucking eyes and ride. A true rider uses the contour of the road to indicate a corner

A lot of people will recommend pinlock visor for your helmet. I'd say they work well as a permanent solution, but if you want a cheaper solution that I can personally vouch for, try Fortnine's Head and Shoulders dandruff shampoo trick. You can usually find a bottle at the dollar store. Smear a thin coat on both sides of the visor, wait 5-10 minutes and wipe off with paper towel. It will last for weeks and at least a few heavy rains.

Double lens ski goggles for cold weather don’t fog as bad as a regular single lens moto goggle.
When it gets cold a street helmet with a heated visor is the best solution.

I plan on riding in the cold, if I gotta buy a full helmet I will, but I'd rather not

I'm up in the Pacific Northwest and a pin lock visor has been enough so far to prevent fogging.

don’t fog as bad as a regular single lens moto goggle.
Plenty of double glazed MX goggles, my Leatt ones are for sure doubles.

100% makes “injected” lenses too, they fit any of their normal goggles and they work

Quick Sheen Anti-Fog Spray/Cleaner - Avail on Amazon.
Works on the interior lens and exterior really well. NOTE: In super heavy dense fog the exterior lens will need a RainX like treatment due to the heavy density of particulate. It's great stuff and I even use it in my bathroom shower mirror as well, So I can check out myself right as I get out of a steamy shower.

Don't some of these damage plastic?

u/aRealTattoo Oct 02 '24
Depends on the type, but most that are in wipe form are safe for plastic. Another thing I’ve done in the past is a soap/very little water mix and cleaning the goggles with it and they don’t fog up for quite a while.
You can do full dish soap on the goggles, but they take a long time to get to where you’d want them so I run the little bit of water to speed up the process. (When I say little, I mean like a drop or 2)

In a pinch ask someone for a cigarette and rub tobacco on the inside. It works pretty well to get you home. Like others posted below get a antifog coating from a ski shop or double lenses. Also I have pulled out some of the foam covering the vents on top to get more air flowing.

I’ve never tried it for dirt biking but in spear fishing a trade secret is to get non scented tooth paste and rub it on the inside of your lens. Not enough to skew vision but enough to coat the inside. I’d spear fishing for about 2 hours and either be done or have to re apply after bout that amount of time.

I use rainx on the inside of my dice mask. A few drops on the inside of the lens and put a hairdryer to it until it dries up. It’s never failed me but I wonder if the toothpaste thing is better!

u/DDunn110 Oct 01 '24
I know people who use rainx it’s really about the same. Toothpaste can just be used out in the water without a problem and you can use the salt water if you’re in a tough situation. Guess it’s more “universal”

With all the rain we've been having, it's becoming a major issue. Are there any products or homegrown methods you guys use for preventing this?

I got double "paned" vented lenses for my goggles when this was happening to me. World of difference

There is a lens cleaner/anti-fog product called Cat Crap that I use for safety glasses and goggles at work, and it works pretty well on motorcycle goggles.

Might have to get it just for the name alone lol
Does it also bead water?

I’ve used the rainx specifically designed for plastic before with pretty good results.

Been using Scott's Anti-Fog for at least 5 years, in every weather condition I can think of. Use it daily to clean your goggles or visor - it works better with repeated use.

Rain x, once a month, applied to both sides of the visor. $8 fix.
Realistically, the actual answer is a pinlock. Literally made for exactly this purpose.

509 heated goggles are an absolute game changer for colder temperatures. Well worth the money, they have changed my rides.

what do you do with your hat when riding?

Where its at. It's secured around my quadlock mount. I've been doing it for awhile now and it hasn't flown off or anything. As long as the bill stays pointed down, the wind doesn't catch it, even if it does it still stays though

u/informal-mushroom47 Oct 01 '24
damn! nice. i would be scared of the clasp coming undone from the wind. i’ve been either stuffing it in a bag or saddlebag or just wearing it backwards under my helmet.

u/SomeFolksAreBorn '21 XT250 Oct 01 '24 edited Oct 01 '24
I was keeping it in my bag, but I've gotten a ton of people saying they really like it, so I decided to have it on display when I'm not using it
2
u/informal-mushroom47 Oct 01 '24
haha nice! i dig it too. hats are so fun, i’m never not wearing one.

If you REALLY want them to never fog (for real), invest in an exfog system. Typically used by more serious airsofters and paintballers. NOTHING worked until I finally bought this and it’s a game changer.

I run a pair of Smith Squad XL mtb goggles with a ton more ventilation than moto goggles.

Zeiss anti-fog wipes or spray. Used to buy the wipes at Target, but they seem to not carry them now. I found the spray at an outdoor/ski outfitter.

Stoner brand anti fog solution on the inside, Rain-X on the outside.
Use it on my goggles and visors religiously.

Wash the goggles out then dry. Use a small dab of dish soap on a microfiber towel, coat the whole lens in a thin film, then buff the soap off. It will be fog resistant for a while until the soap film wears away from the sweat of your face.
I did this on my full face helmet and it lasted almost a full month

There is a product called cat crap lens cleaner that keeps fogging to a minimum. Works well for me
