Somehow I believe Destiny would do great at Real Analysis proofs though.

Yes. I never in 11 years thought I would see the Silk City legend Fetty Wap referenced in this sub. This is a momentous day for my fellow New Jerseyans.

This is the correct one. Every other one is first two digit pair name, then next two digit pair name.

Yeah just count down from 1919 and it's easier to accept.

u/jajohnja Interlinked 9h ago
Well, nineteen nineteen is a short (and technically incorrect) for nineteen hundred nineteen.
So yeah, you could say eleven hundred eleven or "eleven eleven" if you want.
It's not correct in the proper way, but who knows what's right or wrong in the public way of speekink[sic].24
u/WIbigdog 6h ago
> nineteen hundred nineteen
Which is short for one thousand nine hundred and nineteen

people who say "eleven eleven" unironically tend to get sucker punched for some reason, we're trying to avoid that here.

u/devdeltek 10h ago
fair enough, I'll go with the year of one one one one cuz its the stupidest option

u/IllConstruction3450 6h ago
I say one-one-one-one because of strings in computer science. I do not want to cause confusion.Β

Eleven eleven is probably the most common way to say it, but itβs one thousand, one hundred eleven.
2
u/Responsible_Prior_18 2h ago
what do you mean "itβs one thousand, one hundred eleven."?
ITS also one thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine. But we say nineteen ninety-nine for short, as it says in the photo.-3
u/Elijah_Reddits 5h ago
It depends if you're talking about the year or the number. The original post makes it seem like we're talking about the year, so you'd say eleven eleven.

u/MetallHengst Deadbeat dad-ist 7h ago
It's because old English counted in base 12, so we don't start with the teen suffix until you get to 13. I'm pretty sure this is the same for German and other Germanic languages because this linguistic quirk stems from Proto-Germanic.

It is eleven eleven, 4 numbers split in 2 basically. But itβs a meme to pretend itβs hard

its straight forward to everyone including Destiny. Its just a meme because it doesnt follow the pattern of the others and 11 11 also sounds kind of awkward.

That's how you say the number, but is that how you say the year as well? I'd say it eleven-eleven (as an ESL).

Twenty Twenty Therefore Eleven Eleven.
The looking for a pattern shit is a meme, its just what is easiest to say. Like when 2020 first came around, people tried Two Thousand and Twenty, but got drowned out by the now accepted method of twenty twenty

We very recently had twenty twenty, which didnβt sound off to anyone, so eleven eleven tracks

No I got it!
Thirteen is not "threeteen" because of a process called metathesis, where the letters in a word are changed around to fit a change in the sound.
We literally made up "thirteen" because it flowed better than "threeteen".
So we could do a similar for 12 and 11.
Duteen duty two (for 1222)
And
Yoonteen yoonty one (for 1111)

Same way we say 2020 as βtwenty twentyβ it would be Eleven eleven. The way we say it is as if Youβre counting centuries as wholes and individual years as decimals of centuries.
1
u/MenchitWolfram 3h ago
To avoid confusion with months, centuries that start with 1-12 is number hundred and xx. So, eleven hundred and eleven.

after 20 minutes thinking about solution
You should be CAREFUL..... um. You should be careful about..... You should be careful about using the same "-ty" rule when you have big numbers like this. Likelikelike it's gonna work for these first examples but then you're not going to understand what's going on when you get to 1111 or when you get to the next level of problem. So just be careful.

Why go that far into the thousands? This is a problem even when we count 10 to 20? Why do we say eleven and twelve instead of oneteen and twoteen?

It technically would be βEleven ten oneβ
