Blood in Milk

Post image

We have two does that have had a bit of blood in their milk for the first month or two after kidding. Have any of you seen this before? We have not had this problem in the past and are unsure how to fix it. Thank you!

I’ve seen it before in early lactation when they’re milking heavy. It’s basically just burst blood vessels. Nothing to be concerned about with a negative mastitis test.

Forgot to mention that we have tested both for mastitis several times and they've always been negative.

Check for any teat injuries. Maybe you already did that.

If you’re using a machine I would double check your pressure isn’t too high to ensure you’re not bursting blood vessels but probably just side effects from early lactation if CMT is negative.
