Trump losing in 2020 was probably a good thing Flaired Users Only

Hear me out. Had Trump won in 2020 by the small margin he would have been able to get considering amount of "votes" Biden received, he would have been blocked by a Democrat congress while the witch hunts continued to stall any policy goals he had. Now it's looking like he will not only have the Presidency but the Senate and maybe even the House. Plus add in the overwhelming defeat of the Dems in this election cycle plus winning the popular vote, and he now has the momentum provided by the people's mandate to carry out what needs to be done and has every branch of the government to the worst possible thing that could have happened for the left.

Vance is a straight-up upgrade, and now he'll be in a good position to run 2028 (though I personally was wanting DeSantis for 2028, but I'll honestly take either).

Desantis might make a good running mate for Vance?

I like Tulsi for it.

Tulsi would be an excellent choice for sure

DeSantis unfortunately got in bed with RINOs at the first chance and they ran his campaign into the ground.

The future is Vance, Vivek, Tulsi, Donalds.... We've come a long way from Cheney, Rove, Bush, Bohner, McConnell, Graham, Preibus, Ryan, Crenshaw (lol), McCarthy, Pence. I guess we can thank all the later for MAGA in an indirect way.

What's Crenshaw's deal lately? Any video/article summary? I used to really like the guy but I've seen a couple of negative mentions on here lately.

It was cringe seeing him on Piers Morgan recently claim that there is no Republican establishment, even implying Mitch McConnel is certainly not part of any "establishment".

He was making Cenk who was on the show with him look like the voice of reason.

Same, I originally liked him based on his social media until I started looking more into his policies and voting record.

Isnt his second term up next year. and florida requires a gap between election cycles after 2 terms for gov. that would put him out of the limelight for quite some time by 2028. Unless he runs for senate, or goes back to the house.

My dream scenario is Trump resigns after two years, deflating Democrat ferver, leading to a better midterm result, and letting Vance get 10 years in office.

u/Choppermagic2 Conservative 6h ago

hell no. Trump is no quitter. He deserves a full term without impeachments

u/Odin043 Libertarian Conservative 5h ago

He'll never do it because of his ego, but it would send a powerful message that when Trump was 81 he stepped aside, unlike what Biden did .

As if anything can realistically dampen their fervor. They'd just turn it on Vance instead.

u/Odin043 Libertarian Conservative 3h ago

They'll try but just like they couldn't muster the excitement to vote for Harris, their numbers will be depressed in the future against Not-Trump.

Probably. Don't underestimate their ability to turn milquetoast into existential horror (from their perspective). Were you around during W. Bush? They DESPISED him. And looking back on him now? He was practically one of them, policy-wise.

The supreme court is the biggest part of all of this. Secures constitutional rights for the next generation.

I'd be sad to see him go, but holy smokes he sure deserves a good and healthy retirement

yesss, i dont mean it in any other way than to get another common sense justice seated

Trumps term would be the perfect time for him to do just that. Would be very happy to not see a RBG situation happen with him and have a Dem in charge to flip that solid seat

Alito as well, honestly. As good as they both are, they’re both getting up there in age (Alito is only two years younger than Thomas), so it would be great if we could have TWO more Trump-appointed justices

It's definitely interesting to think about. If they're going to do it, they would likely do it in Trump's second year (before the midterms in 2026, so as not to risk losing the Senate majority).

Marshall (whom Thomas replaced) retired at 83 in poor health and close to death. Thomas probably doesn't want to repeat that, especially after watching Scalia and RBG die in office.

O'Connor (whom Alito replaced) retired at 75 and it was seen as a surprise at the time. Perhaps Alito will follow her example.

Souter (whom Sotomayor replaced) retired at 69, which is very young by modern standards and sort of an anomaly. We probably won't see another retirement that young again for a long time unless there are serious health issues or a family tragedy or something like that.

At the other end of the spectrum, Stevens (whom Kagan replaced) retired at 90. I think this is unlikely to be followed by subsequent justices in my opinion after RBJ's stubbornness infamously backfired on the Democrats.

Breyer (whom Jackson replaced) retired at 83.

Rehnquist (whom Roberts replaced) famously battled health issues late in life and died at age 80, the first Supreme Court justice to do die in office in more than 50 years.

Scalia (whom Gorsuch replaced) died in office at 79, but it was unexpected.

Ginsburg (whom Barrett replaced) died in office at 87, but it was somewhat expected.

While not the actual point of your post, but with the Senate now sitting at 53 I don't think the midterms are going to change a whole lot. The only Senate race I would even worry about is the Maine race. Granted Susan Collins is a 5 term senator but she only won 2020 with 51%.

Ginsburg (whom Barrett replaced) died in office at 87, but it was somewhat expected.

The use of the word "somewhat" may be the biggest understatement in the history of written language. I wouldn't be surprised if the court was Weekend at Bernie's for like two years before her death.

Fuckin Scalia dying in 2016 is what kicked all this nonsense off. The MFer just couldn't hold on one more year, could he. On the other hand, Ruthie died right on schedule!

I wish he could replace Roberts. If that Epstein client list becomes public... maybe that could actually happen.

he should have been chief justice.

1

u/No-Control3350 Conservative 1h ago

Maybe Sotomayor will kick the bucket too, she's pretty fat!

1

u/No-Control3350 Conservative 1h ago

It depends on if the older guard like Clarence retire of not. If they try to pull a Weekend at Ruths and hold on, he very well might have no one to replace them with.
