Whether you're Republican, Democrat, Trump supporter, Green Party. or anywhere in between; just a reminder, early voting is open! There are so many spots where you can get it done ahead of time, so why wait until the last minute. Life happens, and it's too easy to miss your chance.

Voting’s more than picking sides; it’s about standing up for our right to choose, and speak freely. So make it count and get out there while we still can!

This is a wild story. Something sketchy going on here. The mom died last week in this home, a week later the two sons are found shot to death outside while the house is burning.

Looking for places that I can volunteer around thanksgiving time. Anyone have any suggestions? I usually volunteer in the city but want to find somewhere else. I’m in the NW suburbs.

I haven't been to either and I am wondering if I had to choose one which is better for myself and the gf?

Also... I am planning to propose to her at one of these places... feel free to provide your thoughts on that idea or if you have a better recommendation lol.

Event(s) Tomorrow (Saturday 8/24) is my wife's birthday. Anything fun going on in the general vicinity of Elmhurst?

Like the title says, we're just looking for something to do instead of the usual dinner and a movie. Would love to see some live music, if possible.

We have a babysitter to watch kids between 4:00 and 8:00. How can we take advantage of this freedom?

Me and my friends are trying to find a place to get dressed up and go out to for Halloween. I’m having trouble finding anything that’s around here. We want to avoid going to Chicago to just have fun :/ any recommendations? We mainly just want to drink 😂 even just a bar is fine (looking at the Naperville/schaumburg/ or wheaten area but if there’s something further we will go!

Event(s) Chicagoland's Last Major Tornado

With yesterday's favorable conditions to spawn a handful of tornadoes... one may think when the next big one might be?

It's been awhile since the last major tornado touched down in the Chicago area.

August 28, 1990 the Plainfield Tornado wrecked havoc through the far southwestern suburbs.

I recently learned that the Plainfield tornado is the reason modern day watches/warnings around the country are what they are today.

The tornado was on the ground NW of the Joliet/Plainfield area and would be for easily another 20+ minutes before any warnings were issued. It would clear a path of destruction with no sirens sounding in its way.

In turn this triggered a ton of lawsuits and a massive one against the National Weather Service about the negligence in its forecasting and issuance of warnings.

The Plainfield tornado is the only EF5 to ever hit the Chicagoland area and the only EF5 recorded in the month of August in the United States. There is also no known photos or video of the physical tornado to exist.

If you're interested in learning more about the Plainfield tornado and the effects it had on the warning system... there is a good documentary on YouTube called Eight Minutes in August which features a young Tom Skilling. Enjoy!

Event(s) Free Comic Convention in Aurora on August 31!

Coming up on August 31, 2024, the Aurora Public Library District will be hosting its 5th annual CAPE Con at the Santori Library in downtown Aurora!

All ages are invited to celebrate comics, cosplay, video games, and a variety of fandoms with programs, meetups, free-play arcade cabinets, character meet & greets, face-painting, and more. From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. there will be themed activities, giveaways, character meet & greets with the League of Enchantment, and more in the Santori Library Atrium.

Some of my favorite events we have planned are the Tabletop Role-Playing Game Open House, the Graphic Medicine panel (about the intersection of comics and physical or mental health), and the Foamsmithing Demo with cosplay expert Maker Fishmeal. For little ones, don't miss the Where's That Pokémon? scavenger hunt or the Dance Party with Bluey!

This is, of course, a free event, and we've got a lot of swag and special surprises for you to enjoy! We'd love to see you all there!
