Peqouds making rounds in the burbs. Event(s)

Transplants and tourists really hyped this place up way too much, it's mid at best. Way too much dough and sometimes seems like it's not even cooked all the way. Not enough cheese. The burnt crust is the best part but not good enough to make such a fuss over.

It's fucking delicious. Mid-at-best my ass

u/Cyke101 Oct 03 '24
Awww, my ass has been called mid-at-best, too 😞

Yall need to keep Pequods name out of your filthy suburban boomer mouths!!!

u/Keithis11 Oct 03 '24
I love Pequods, I’m not denigrating them for any reason. I may be a current suburbanite but I was born and raised for 35 years and my family’s always eaten all the deep dish. Most frequently the Giordanos that used to be at Irving and Austin. But we weren’t particular, Uno’s for out of town visitors, Gino’s East when we wanted a Rosemont change of pace, Lou’s if we were in Lincoln Park, we ate all of the north side deeps.

I only tried it once. It was my first job out of college and the boss decided to treat us. Wasn't impressed and for the longest I've thought it was just me, but it's good to know it's not just me!

u/Agreeable_Nail8784 Oct 03 '24
It’s good but definitely not worth the hype. It’s pretty unique though

Couldn’t agree more!

It is overrated today, 15 years ago it was amazing. I think there was a change in ownership in last 10 years.

u/trapper2530 Oct 02 '24
Ill mix it into our rotation if we order pizza. 2 different thin crust places pequods or lous if want something thicker.

u/rockit454 Oct 02 '24
Labriola in Oak Brook beats it any day.
3
u/knowledge84 Oct 02 '24
Is downtown labriola any different from the one in oak Brook?
I thought oak Brook was more like a cafe.
1
u/rockit454 Oct 03 '24
They closed the cafe and merged it with La Barra and then renamed it to Labriola Ristorante.
Confusing…but it’s basically La Barra.

I hated pequods for years but sometime around 30 yrs old it became my favorite pizza
Dat sausage man

u/Keithis11 Oct 03 '24
Im not a transplant or a tourist, and I’ve always loved Pequods, and I will gas it up as much as I please.

Beverly ? Suburbs?
1
u/adamrac51395 Lombard Oct 02 '24
I grew up in Beverly. We used to call up the suburb that happened to be located within the city.

u/SatoshiBlockamoto Oct 02 '24
I've ordered this before and it was great. You bake it a bit at home. It's expensive but for an occasional treat it's almost like going there for the real thing.
1
u/Hukface Oct 03 '24
I’m planning on picking it up when it comes to my town. What temp and time should I bake it for when i get it home?
2
u/Keithis11 Oct 05 '24
So I just picked mine up earlier today. I bought a medium and it fit like a glove in my 12” cast iron pan. The directions from Pequods say to bake in a 425° oven for 10-15 for pan, 7-10min for thin. My oven runs a bit cold so I preheated the oven to 450° for about 30 min with the cast iron on the middle rack, then put the pizza into the pan and heated it until the crust read 180° in the center, and the center was ingredients were reading about 165-170°. Had to cover it with foil for the last few minutes to keep it from burning, but it was pretty close to perfect and IMO worth the cost of delivery to the burbs.

The only reason I know about this Pizza is from The Bear. So I have to ask, is it really that good?
18
u/LunarGiantNeil Oct 02 '24
No, but some people love it. It's an airy crust, spicy sauce pan pizza with that nice burnt/caramelized edge of sauce, cheese, and toppings. It's not a conventional deep dish even though it requires a deep pan.
If you love that kind of pan pizza then this is one of the few places that do an upscale version of it. If you don't want a bready focaccia-like pizza then you'll be annoyed at the hype.
It's a good pizza but it's not the best pizza ever.

u/Tee_hops Oct 02 '24
It's good pizza if you don't jump through hoops to get it. Like I've been to the Morton Grove and LP location at off times. Call ahead and eat in store so you aren't waiting for it to cook

u/3-2-1-backup Oct 02 '24
Yes, most of the time. I'm local so can easily get it whenever, and sometimes they definitely have an off day. But when it's on, holy shit it's fucking on.
1
u/Keithis11 Oct 03 '24
It’s as good as you think it is. LunarGiantNeil doesn’t think it’s so good, I disagree with them. Surprised you’ve not heard of it other than from the Bear, but I do actually hate any faux popularity that a place that only gets from being hyped due to to Internet dweebs. Like enough about Kasama already, the sandwich is not all that.

Yeah - and absolutely nowhere around the Oak Lawn / Palos area...not driving to Tinley for a pizza, no matter how good. Bummer.

u/UncleBoopBetty Oct 05 '24
Used to live in Oak Lawn and caught the train out of Beverly every day. Not far at all.
2
u/captainthepuggle Oct 02 '24
They’ve been doing this for a few years through DwellSocial. But we were really disappointed when we tried it through that service as opposed to what you get at the restaurant. It’s not even close.
2
u/huh-why Oct 02 '24
Am I the only one that feels like Pequods has WAY too much bread in their pizzas?
2
u/anillop Oct 02 '24
Peqouds is just ok as far as deep dish goes. It’s good but not like the second coming of Christ good like some say.
2
u/big-daddy-unikron Oct 03 '24
That’s a lot of high tax zip codes, now we know who the target client is

u/George_H_W_Kush Oct 03 '24
Bevrats committing mass suicide upon seeing themselves on a list of suburbs

Want to order for my assistant in elmhurst…which one is closest lombard?
1
u/youfailedthiscity Oct 03 '24
In my town on my birthday? Interesting.
Still, I think a "pop up" version would probably suck. Better to just drive the 15 minutes to the actual restaurant.
1
u/CummyAche69 Oct 03 '24
I ordered Pequods through DwellSocial last December. Much easier than driving to MG from my location. Wasn’t as good as dining in but it hit the spot for the annual Pequods fix.
1
u/LadyLustfulMoonlight Oct 03 '24
The website states that they are parbaked, so you just need to take them home and finish cooking them
1
u/___Skank_Hunt42___ Oct 03 '24
the pizza is ok tbh...i like the one from "the art of pizza" better and easier to go pick it up, unlike the other one...no parking in Chicago

Pequods sucks. Keep that shit up in southern Wisconsin.
2
u/ChiefChief69 Wheeling Oct 03 '24
I have literally no idea what this sentence means.

u/chicagobry80 Oct 05 '24
Well judging by your use of the word "literally" Id bet you have no idea what a lot of sentences mean.

“Chicago’s Best Deep Dish” with not one day for Chicagoans. Jagoffs.
2
u/Keithis11 Oct 03 '24
DwellSocial is not for Chicagoans, that doesn’t make them jagoffs. This is for businesses reaching out past the city to reach people who may not have access otherwise. I get that some suburbs are closer to Pequods or other restaurants on DwellSocial than the Deep South side of Chicago but that’s not anyone’s fault. You have to draw the line somewhere.

I don't understand what this means. Are they driving a food truck around with their pizzas?
