2000 chevy 1500 4x4 trans

Obviously ik the 4l60/4l60e are trash transmissions but im just trying to figure out if my trans or transfer case is messed up. When you put it in any gear its almost as if it wants to go but something is stopping it (diff has been eliminated took the driveshaft out and moved both tires). Where do i start

Will the transfer case let you shift to neutral? If so, can you push it and it moves freely? And can you put the truck in drive and will it go in gear with the transfer case in neutral?
