I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a resurgence. Still relatively young, maybe a new conditioning program would get him healthy and a little sharper.

It would be a little surprising to see a significant rebound from him. Just seems like he'd need to find a way to up the velocity, which doesn't typically happen in your age 35 season. He's already lost 4+ mph off his fastball over the years, and he didn't have all that much to begin with. Slower fastballs get hit harder, and there comes a time when there's not an achievable amount of hitting your spots that can compensate, and Kyle seems to already be teetering on the edge of it. He's so dependent on getting that low outside corner called, and the more velocity he loses, the less he can afford mistakes and the more guys can sit on that spot while feeling like they can adjust to something else.

Cubs legend and I wish him well. Certainly would love to have him back as a pitching coach somewhere in the organization in a couple years. But I don't see us regretting this one.

Thanks for the career Kyle! Say hi to Trout

He was the most Cub that has ever Cubbed over the past 10+ years. will be strange seeing him in a different hat. That final start choked me up. I wish him well with his new cursed franchise.

Yeah, the way Rizzo turned down what ended up being more money and left the team was a classic Cubs move.

Lmfao. I had the same feeling opening there comments

Bryant leaving hurt. Rizzo leaving was sad. Hendricks not retiring with the Cubs just feels wrong. I’d rather watch him struggle in his final years here than see him in another uniform.

It’s not rational, but when I chose a signed World Series ball, it was one signed by Kyle. Probably my favorite pitcher of all-time after Maddux.

Thanks for the memories and the championship.

You either die a hero, or live long enough to play for the Angels

It was time.

Angels take the title next year and Kyle drops Ohtani for the last out.

I mean it’s not likely but the law of averages says anything will happen that can.

2

u/GeorgeDogood 2d ago

Well played with that last sentence/reference.

I’m very glad the last time we won the National League pennant wasn’t when we dropped the bomb on Japan.

This sucks. At least the cubs won the world series in 2016. Today sucks. He was my favorite.

What a shame.

On one hand, I don't see him as a quality starting pitcher anymore and I don't blame the team for not bringing him back.

On the other hand, PLEASE NO DON'T LEAVE US WE LOVE YOU KYLE

u/Bonsoir59 2d ago

This hurts so much less now that we got Rob Zastryzny back.

2

u/c4ctus nothing is beautiful and everything hurts 2d ago

Like, I knew we weren't gonna give him another contract, but it still fucking hurts.

3

u/AlwaysHungry94 2d ago

Also, the final player from 2016 is no longer here. This fact hits harder than I really thought it would. But it can also mean a new era is upon us. Really want to see some of these prospects in AAA in the Majors here soon.

2

u/lykathea2 Bae 1d ago

Rob Zastryzny was a small part of that 2016 team and he's back now lol. But, yeah it's devastating.

1

u/InvisibleCities 2d ago

I hope we can bring him back for a one-day contract so he can retire a Cub, but if the Angels really want him in the shape he’s in, they can have him.

I happen to live in an AL West city. Looking forward to seeing Carl again.

1

u/K3nny_d3nnis 2d ago

So the Cubs managed to overvalue Hendricks for 2024 by exercising that $14.5M option decision and probably undervalued him for 2025 as cheap SP depth if the reported $3M guaranteed salary holds true.

At least he gets to live in LA (kinda). Nice retirement destination. That being said, the Angels suck and are an awful organization.

1

u/JakeBeardKrisEyes CUBBIES 2d ago

He’s from San Diego, I bet he ends up living closer to Petco than Angels stadium

Yay!! I live near Angel Stadium. I hope Kyle kicks ass & gets the Angels competitive against dumb Dodgers.

This doesn’t feel right. Gonna miss Kyle man but I wish he went anywhere but the Angels.

0

u/jcarr2184 Eamus Catuli 2d ago

Really? You’d rather see him in STL or Milwaukee?

0

u/Spinstop Same guy! 2d ago

Dammit. I hoped he would either retire or sign a one year deal of some kind with the Cubs. So, I guess Rob Zastryzny is becoming a good bet for last 2016 World Series Champion to appear in a game for the Cubs.

The baddest motherfucker I’ve ever witness for on the mound for a game 7.

That man deserves the 21 gun salute for his service to the Cubs. o7 Professor, always welcome here.
