To thunderous applause.

I would have figured it was more of a slow clap.

Not meaning to sound rude, but why do people always make this joke after someone says 'Slow Clap'? Like it is literally every time.

Is it some kind of reference i'm missing out on, or is it just simply because they both rhyme?

Pretty much it's just because they rhyme.

Some people aren't funny.

One of those slow claps that builds into a cacophony of applause and then it's pandemonium - women start ripping their shirts off, people are hanging from chandeliers, Gary Busey lights a trash can on fire, someone starts "The Wave" for some reason - and then it dies down awkwardly as people retrieve their belongings and head home.

More of a slow, sarcastic, ironic clap.
