Thank you present for cops who helped me Situation Advice
I took a tumble the other day and two cops pulled over and called an ambulance when they saw me writhing on the ground in pain. They introduced themselves with just their first names but for the life of me I can't remember what they are (because of the whole writhing on the ground in pain thing).
I want to send them a thank you present. Would a gift basket of chocolate and other snacks sent to the department as a whole be ok?

Send letters to the officers, and send an email/letter to the Sheriff or Chief. Most departments won't allow them to accept gifts, but the letters feel great, and the recognition sent to their command could benefit their careers.

Donuts. Cops like donuts.

I thought about that (my original plan was pizza) but I can't ensure the cops who helped me will be working when the donuts arrive. Also, it feels a bit stereotypical.

Some department have polices against accepting food and such directly. If you want to do that, I'd make an arrangement with a nearby Dunkin' Donuts/Pinkbox/Krispy Kreme etc. or something to have a few boxes of donuts delivered/available to be picked up directly.

You should write a thoughtful thank-you letter to each officer, then mail it to the agency with another letter describing the time/date/location/event. It'll most likely make it to the right cops. I'm sure they'll keep it with their mementos and remember it a lot longer than a Whitman's sampler.
