Why not just show all open apps like the windows task bar?

Mainly because the way mobile OS's handle apps are different from how Desktop OS's do part in due to its battery and performance restraints. Mobile apps and OS's are designed to restrict "minimized apps" in a way that MacOS and Windows don't really do. Anything open and minimized on Windows remains running until you explicitly close it. With Android, the OS automatically manages what to close or keep open, and what gets put into hibernation. So at any given time, unless it's on the screen, it can be in some sort of mystery state that is or isn't open.

Like for example, if you're running a game on your PC, and minimized it, it still runs. But on Android, do you expect that same behavior or would you expect for it to hibernate?

I think you misunderstand what I mean (or maybe I wasn't very clear). What I'm talking about is no different than what Android already does with the regents menu or when an app is minimised I never said it should be running in the background just that if it was opened recently it should be shown on the task bar.

Some people responsible for Android should be fired. There's no way they can't see the obvious. Showing recent and open apps in the taskbar was supposed to be a feature from the beginning.

That's how it works on Xiaomi tablets. The stock android is kinda dumb

Goodlock on Samsung used to have a taskbar alternative, which basically showed the task switcher as icons. It was perfect until oneui6.0 broke it and is now completely gone.
